Watermelon and Basil Margarita
Serve these cocktails when your guests arrive. The high water content of the watermelon would ensure that your guests are refreshed and hydrated while their energy levels increase which ultimately keeps them interactive throughout the evening. Watermelon is low in calories while the basil is rich in antioxidants.
4 cups of watermelon cubes
Lime juice extracted from 3 limes
Lemon juice extracted from 1 lemon
½ cup of orange liqueur
¾ cup of tequila
2 chopped basil leaves
Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour over crushed ice and garnish with lemon slices. Omit the alcohol for a mocktail version. Serve with light appetizers.
Apple and Cucumber Water
Avoid flavoured water filled with preservatives and artificial flavouring. Go the natural and healthy route by creating your own flavoured water. Slice apple and cucumber place it in a glass pitcher, add water then refrigerate for a couple of hours then serve with ice. Place the glass pitcher of your flavoured water on the dinner table along with a selection of juice and wine for you guests to choose from.
Minted Pineapple Cooler
A perfect after dinner drink as it contains mint which is not only low in calories, rich in vitamins and minerals, but also aids the digestive system. This ensures that your guests do not feel bloated or uncomfortable after the main course, leaving room to enjoy your dessert.
1 ½ cups of mint leaves
¼ cup of sugar
¼ cup of lime juice
Throw the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice into the blender and blend until the mint leaves are fine. Stir a bit of the pineapple juice into the mint mixture and pour the rest of the pineapple juice into a zip lock bag and freeze for a couple of hours. Then combine the mint mixture and frozen pineapple juice and blend. Pour the drinks into glasses and allow it to stand for a couple of minutes before serving.
Dark Chocolate Martini
Can be served with dessert or as a dessert when adding ice cream. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It also reduces your chances of suffering from high blood pressure.
30g dark chocolate
Fill glasses with the crushed ice to keep the glasses cool. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place into a mixing bowl. Heat the cream and pour over the chocolate then mix together creating a smooth chocolate sauce. Pour ice cubes, vodka and the chocolate sauce into a cocktail shaker and shake for 20 seconds. Remove the crushed ice from all the glasses then pour the chocolate martini into the glasses. If you are serving it as a dessert, use bowls instead of glasses and pour the chocolate martini over the ice cream.
