Homemade Toothpaste - How To Make Homemade Tooth Cleansers And Toothpaste

Toothpaste recipe


  • 4 tablespoons each of arrowroot, powdered orris root and purified water
  • ½ teaspoon each of oil of cinnamon and oil of cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage

Directions: Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. If the paste is too thick, add more water until the desired consistency is reached. Transfer the paste into a tightly covered jar. Use it as required.

Mint Tooth Paste Recipe


  • 6 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons glycerin
  • 15 drops peppermint or wintergreen extract

Directions: Mix thoroughly. Should be a tooth paste consistency. Store in a container. You'll be surprised with how fresh your mouth feels.

Toothpaste recipe for Sensitive Teeth


  • 1/2 cup, Vegetable Glycerin [base]
  • 1/2 cup, Cosmetic clay, white [mild abrasive]
  • 35-40 drops, Tincture of myrrh [gum inflammation]
  • 7-8 drops, Peppermint or Spearmint or Pudinhara [fresh breath]
  • 7-8 drips, Clove essential oil [mild anesthetic, for toothache]

Directions: Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Adjust the quantity of glycerine to get toothpaste consistency. Store in a wide mouth bottle.

Tooth Whitener or Cleanser Recipe


  • Baking soda, 1 teaspoon
  • Hydrogen peroxide, a few drops

Directions: Mix the two ingredients and use as a paste on your teeth and gums two times a week.

Brushing teeth regularly with neem stems ensure healthy teeth and gums. Rubbing the bark of walnut tree brightens the teeth.

Toothache Relief

Dab 1-5 drops of clove oil* (a powerful antiseptic) onto a cotton ball and place over painful tooth or gums. It will numb the area, giving temporary relief. (Clove oil is rich in eugenol, dentists use eugenol as a local anesthetic.

Old Fashioned Homemade Tooth Powder


  • 2 tbsp dried lemon or orange rind
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 2 tbsp salt

Directions: Place rinds in food processor, grind until peel becomes a fine powder. Add baking soda and salt then process a few seconds more until you have a fine powder. Store in an airtight tin or jar. Dip moistened toothbrush into mixture, brush as usual.
