Help The Baby In The Womb With Pineapple Juice

Pineapple is a tropical fruit native to South America, although it has spread its roots all over the world. It can be consumed fresh, canned or juiced. It can be added to a wide variety of foods, such as jam, yoghurt, ice-cream, fruit salad, desserts and candy. In addition to being sweet and delicious to eat, pineapple comes packed with vitamins and nutrients vital for a healthy body. These vitamins and nutrients are especially good for pregnant women because they aid the growth of the baby inside the womb, and help keep them healthy. Many women have an issue with the effect of the enzyme bromelain on their cervix, but this is based upon misconceptions. The fact is that pineapple juice is perfectly safe for women, whether expecting or not.

The ingredients of pineapple juice

This sweet, juicy fruit is superrich in vitamin C which is essential for building the bones, skin, cartilage and tendons of babies developing in wombs. A pregnant woman needs 85 mgs of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, every day, and a cup of pineapple juice contains 25 mgs of the same. All she needs is three cups of the juice on a day. Pineapple juice also contains other nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin B6, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, potassium, iron and manganese essential for the body. Fresh pineapple also contains dietary fiber, which is good for bowel movement. Pregnant women should drink lots of pineapple juice for their baby's health and growth.

How safe is pineapple juice for pregnant women?

In the past, pineapple juice was believed to induce miscarriage in pregnant women, and was often used for that purpose. There is, however, no scientific proof as yet to corroborate that belief. In fact, pineapple juice has plenty of vitamin C and other nutrients that are vital for the baby's growth. One problem with pineapple juice for some pregnant women could be heartburn due to acidity, but apart from that it is perfectly safe for them.

Can pineapple juice induce labor?

It was traditionally believed that pineapple juice could induce labor in the last month of pregnancy. This is an erroneous belief and there is no scientific evidence to support it. Many people point at the compound called bromelain, found in pineapple, as the reason behind the belief. Bromelain can and does stimulate the cervix to dilate and thin out in pregnant women, but it doesn't exist in sufficient quantity to induce labor.

Can you drink pineapple juice if you have gestational diabetes?

Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that develops in pregnant women during their pregnancy because of the high concentration of sugar in their bloodstream. Pineapple juice, like any other fruit juice, contains more concentrated natural sugar than the whole fruit, and can cause blood sugar level to spike up if taken in large quantities. However, pregnant women with gestational diabetes can still drink pineapple with foods that contain protein or fiber, as these tend to mitigate the effect.
