Home Remedies For Centipedes
Centipedes are very interesting little creatures, but none the less, you don’t want them in your home. To rid of these 30 to 70 legged arthropods, it would help a lot if you knew a little bit about them and how they operate.
These guys may be interesting and cool to look at for some, but for others, they are terrified. Many people don’t know too much about centipedes, but with the way they look, no one wants to find out. They can be helpful around the house because their diet consists of spiders, flies, moths, and cockroaches. On the downside of things, they also bite. They usually try to avoid humans altogether, but if they are hungry or feel threatened, they will bite with a painful sting.
A few other interesting facts about centipedes include having to live in a damp area because their bodies will dry out in a dry environment. They can live anywhere from 3 to 7 years and they lay their eggs in the springtime.
Knowing just a few of these facts probably makes you want to get up and start checking your home for any and every bug that you can find. To get rid of these shy but sometimes harmful creatures, you can try a number of home remedies and see which works best for you.
Keeping your home clean and dry may be the only thing you have to do to get rid of centipedes and keep them from coming back. Remember that their bodies dry out in dry environments. You can also use a dehumidifier to keep an entire room dry.
Another thing you may want to try is sealing up all of the cracks around the entrance of your home. These repairs will include holes and cracks around the windows, walls, and foundation of your home. One the same note, you may want to check your basement floor for the same things.
If you’re an environment and creature friendly person, you won’t want to hurt the centipede, you simply just want it out of your home. If this happens to be the case, just put it into a jar and place it back outdoors. Make sure you take it far away from your home so you two won’t encounter again and it can’t get back in so easily. Keep in mind that there may also be more than one. If you just so happen to find one, survey the surrounding area to see if there is a family hiding somewhere so that you can get rid of all of them at the same time.
Another interesting fact and remedy here is to keep other pests and insects out of your home. Since this is what centipedes enjoy eating, if you don’t have anything around for them to snack on, they will leave on their own. Interesting enough, many critters like these seem to be very picky about what they eat and how they eat it. Keeping your home sparkly clean is the best solution to many pest and critter problems that you may be experiencing. Not only does this go for the inside, but for the outside of the home as well.
