Home Remedies For Kennel Cough
Unfortunately, humans aren’t the only ones who suffer from the terrible kennel cough. Dogs can also get this as well. If you aren’t too familiar with this, you may be wondering exactly what kennel cough is and what you can do to cure it and get rid of it.
This kind of cough is a type of bronchitis that makes you think that something may be stuck in your dog’s throat. This cough is quite similar to that of a chest cold that humans get. The sound of your dog coughing may drive you up a wall, and all you can do is hope that it stops. There are a few remedies that may do just that.
Peppermint may be the remedy that stops your dog’s terrible cough. With the peppermint, all you have to do is make a strong tea from peppermint leaves. You will administer two or three drops from a medicine dropper every hour until your pooches cough has gone away. You can also add honey if you would like.
Honey alone can also do the trick. Just give your dog a teaspoon of honey three times a day. If you would like to create set times that you administer the honey that would also be a good idea. You can also add it to hot water if you would like. Your furry friend may not be so willing to drink it, so if this is the case, just use a medicine dropper.
Humid environments have been proven as a remedy and relief for this kind of cough. You can use a humidifier to get the air and environment situated. Once you feel you have done this, set the humidifier close to where the dog sleeps.
Smoking affects your dog in many ways that it does humans. Try smoking outside or in a separate room. Outside would be best, but most smokers enjoy being able to be relaxed in the comfort of their own home, so smoking in a separate room becomes an option.
Vitamin C is also very helpful because it will sky rocket your dog’s immune system. Just add some sort of this vitamin to their every day diet.
Less exercise may also help. When your dog has this cough, limit the walks and outdoor activities for a while. Try keeping your pet inside for a little while so that their cough doesn’t worsen.
Hydrogen peroxide may also be of some help. You use this peroxide to sterilize their bowls that they eat and drink out of and then put three drops of peroxide with two teaspoons of honey in their dish. You will do this for every eight ounce glass of water that you pour into their dish.
Dogs are a lot like humans and really need, love, affection, and care. You can use these remedies to save a little money and give your pet immediate relief until you are able to get them to the vet or find another alternative that you think is best.
