Home Diamond Cleaning Remedy

Diamonds are the most precious gemstone around the world. They are loved for a variety of reasons, but especially they are noticed for their sheen when kept up nicely.

If you take proper care of your diamonds they will always sparkle, and they can last for an entire lifetime. One suggestion for keeping your diamonds as clean and shiny as possible would be to use home cleaning remedies.

What you will be shown below is a variety of ways of cleaning your diamonds. You can try whichever version of maintenance you think is most appropriate. It helps to have more than one choice of cleansing in order to ensure proper care.

Soap and Water

One of the first steps to cleaning your diamonds is to fill up a small bowl with water. However, it is highly recommended that you use sterile or distilled water.

This is very important, as regular tap water usually has too much chlorine in it and this can discolor the metal portion of your diamond jewelry.

Take this distilled or sterile water and put it in the microwave and cook the water until it is near boiling hot. Into this hot water you should place 1 tsp. of mild dish soap into this hot water, then mix it thoroughly.

After the soap is evenly distributed throughout the bowl of water then place the jewelry into the bowl to soak it. Leave the diamonds in the water for 5 to 10 minutes. You can do this for rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, or other jewelry pieces.

After a maximum of 10 minutes you can then take out each piece and scrub it with a soft-bristled tooth brush. After that, you can then dump out the soapy water, rinse it, and then fill it with cool rinse water.

After you have prepared your rinse water then dip the diamond pieces into the clean water. Once they are rinsed, then you can pat them dry with a towel. Make sure you use a cloth or paper that does not shed lint.

Alternative Methods

You could also clean your diamond jewelry with an ammonia-based glass cleaner. Take all your precious adornments and place them on a clean, dry cloth. You can do this on the kitchen counter, tabletop, or other flat and spacious surface.

After you spray your jewelry with the glass cleaner let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then very carefully and gently wipe it off with a dry fiber and lint-free cloth.

A similar cleaning method as the one described above involves using a ¼ cup of pure ammonia diluted in an equal amount (¼ cup) of distilled water. You would mix this solution and place it in a spray bottle to be applied to your jewelry or you would place the ammonia-water solution into a bowl.

Either way, they should soak for a minimum of 5 minutes. Then, you can take a soft-bristled toothbrush and scrub them. Afterward, you should then rinse them and dry them with a soft, clean cloth.
