| Home Remedies for Cleaning Garden VegetablesThe risk of becoming contaminated by food-borne illnesses can be decreased as you remove any chemicals from your fruits and vegetables. However, soap or detergent should never be used to wash your produce. Instead, you are advised to try using a non-chemical home remedy that is not harmful. You can even use one of a variety of ingredients or substances you probably already have in your house. The advantages of using home remedies are discussed during the end of this article. However, you will be first introduced to three very common household ingredient formulas that are often very helpful in home remedy cleaning. The more you learn about these the better off you will be. This is done to give you insight on just exactly how certain kinds of home cleaning solutions will work-just exactly how they can help you. VinegarThis is a natural disinfectant. It requires 2 tbsp. of distilled white vinegar and 1 pint of water. This mixture should be put together in a spray bottle so that it can be sprayed as a mist onto fruits and vegetables. After you apply the vinegar you can then scrub the fruits and vegetables with a brush. Afterwards, you should then mix thoroughly. You should be careful about using vinegar on porous substances such as fruits and vegetables. Otherwise, they will absorb the vinegar and you will experience an after taste. Lemon JuiceLemon juice is another substance that can clean very well. It can also disinfect. All you need to do with this is to soak fruits and veggies in 1 qt. of cold water, 4 tbsp. of salt, and ¼ cups lemon juice. You should let the fruits and veggies sit in the above mixture for 10 minutes. Then, you should rinse the produce under cold water for 10 minutes. This is a soak that works very well for items such as beans, peas, berries, and other smaller fruits and vegetables. Baking SodaBaking soda is another very useful substance. It can be used to create a cleansing paste to use as a soak. It requires 3 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 qt. of cold water. Baking soda directly on a sponge would work well too. All of this is used to scrub dirty produce, after which you would rinse it. AdvantagesCleaning with the above home remedies can be to your advantage. It helps not only prevent danger to you or others in your household but it also helps keep the environment clean. You will be happy you used these substances only because they can save you a lot of money. If you hadn’t used them you might have instead bought a variety of chemical cleaners that are not only dangerous but they also are very expensive. However, the best part about all of this is that the remedies you use are made using ingredients you most likely already own. This makes shopping time so much simpler and it also cuts down the time that it takes you to shop. |
