Homemade Gold Jewelry Cleaning Solution

Gold is one of the most precious metals available on the Earth’s crust. For thousands of years, it has been used by various civilizations to make jewelry which shine even today. Gold is a noble metal, so, it does not rust or taint due to physical factors. Things you will need:

1. Ammonia (about 1 tablespoon)
2. Liquid dish detergent (about 1 tablespoon)
3. A mixing bowl
4. A spoon for stirring
5. A brush with soft bristles
6. A fresh, soft cotton cloth

Instructions:

1. Firstly, you need to mix the 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 tablespoon of detergent and a cup of moderately warm water in the mixing bowl and stir thoroughly with the spoon until all the contents are evenly distributed.
2. The above mixture gives you the cleaning solution for your jewelry which you need to put into the solution for cleaning and leave it undisturbed for five to six minutes (the time may vary according to the amount of dirt on the ornament).
3. After you have soaked the jewelry, you can be assured that more than half of the dirt has been removed. Now, with the brush, gently rub away the remaining grime. Do not scrub very hard as it may leave scratches the gold.
4. Wash the article again with mild warm water and then with cool water.
5. Dry the water from the jewelry using the cloth and it is good to go as new! Make sure that no moisture stays on the gold, or it may damage the gold. Moreover you should prefer not to keep drying agents (like Silica gel) along with gold articles.

Gold jewelry as said requires very good maintenance. Hence, keep it in a felt- lined or soft cloth box separately so that it does not get scratch by each other.
